The Ontario College of Art and Design's Sharpe Centre building floats nine stories above street level as one of Toronto's most daring architectural forays.
Then have a chat with them. This what I base my statement on:
"Few buildings in Toronto have caused more controversy. The newly-opened Sharpe Centre for Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) is a $42.5 million campus redevelopment and expansion project, featuring a 60,000 square foot teaching studio facility held nine-stories in the air above OCAD's main campus. The table top structure is held aloft by 12 colourful steel columns and conceived as one half of a suspension bridge, with the central core equivalent to the tower at one end of the bridge, and the columns equivalent to the suspension cables.
Established in 1876, OCAD is Canada largest university of art and design and the oldest. 3,300 full and part time students attend, making OCAD the 4th largest independent art college in North America. 14,000 OCAD alumni work as practitioners in creative fields such as film and television production, web design, advertising, interior design, illustration, photography, graphic design, publishing, and product and furniture design. Their artwork is held in private and public collections in Canada and abroad, and exhibited widely."
